I am writing a paper on illegal immigration in the US, and I was hoping to ask a couple of questions of people reading this post.
There seems to be a lot of crazy people with some very strong opinions writing about immigration laws and policy. The mass amount of conversations on the web, ranging from, “I hate those Illegals,” to “Let my people go free,” makes it hard to just find out the, “Why” of illegal immigration.
1. Why do people immigrate to the US illegally? Is it that bad in Mexico?
2. How do they get here illegally? Does every one of them stow away in a semi truck trailer?
3. Why is illegal immigration a problem? Are current Americans afraid of Native American descendants taking back land?
4. Does anybody believe President Obama is doing anything about illegal immigration in the United States?
Will you please take a moment and leave a comment on your thoughts and opinions regarding the “Why” of United States illegal immigration?

1. Usually because they don’t qualify to immigrate legally. They can be disqualified for a variety of reasons — criminal background, shady connections, communicable diseases, and more. Also, each country is only permitted a certain number of immigrants a year in order to be fair for EVERY country and EVERY immigrant, even those who have to travel overseas to get here.
Some people do not wish to wait their turn. Some are coming over for criminal endeavors and coming in legally would not be to their benefit. Some do it simply because it’s easier than filling out the paperwork and doing the background checks. (Sort of like someone who decides it’s too hard to take driver’s education, a behind the wheel class and test, pay the fees, find insurance and take a driving test; so they decide to just drive without a license or insurance.)
2. Most simply come across the border where it isn’t secured. If caught, they just come again a few hours or days later. Some just dart right across in front of the border patrol, but they do so in large groups. That way some make it and some are caught. They take the risk and then try again with the next group. You can see people doing it on youtube. I tried to a few, but all have been blocked by Yahoo Answers. Go to youtube and do a search “illegal aliens crossing border” You’ll find lots.
3. It’s a problem for MANY reasons. Here are a few:
a. easy conduit for terrorists entering the USA
b. massive escalation in crime
c. surge in foreign national prisoners to support for years
d.increases Balkanization of US
e.increases multiculturalism/segregation/divisivenes…
instead of the American melting pot
f. increases desire for Aztlan (reclaiming SW states for Mexico)
g. increasing number of traffic accidents
h. main contributor to surging US population
i. dramatic impact on society and infrastructure, including education
j. destruction of fragile ecosystems in American SW
k. main cause of emergency rooms and hospitals closing as well as service cut backs
l. introduction of third world diseases
m. increased welfare costs
n. massive costs to society – over and above contributions
so there you go.
Illegal immigration is a problem because it strains the medical systems, the school systems, the welfare system, the streets and housing sector. Too many people arrive and have too many babies too fast which doesn’t allow time for the economy or intrastructure to expand at the same rate.
Millions come in without visas, without skills, without a plan to support themselves. Its like flooding a balloon with water too fast: it bursts instead of gradually filling for the use it was intended.
Another thing is that they work for less than most Americans which screws up the wages for the rest of us who don’t want to live in a house with 8 other adults. Look it up: illegal immigrants primarily from mexico have a insanely high birth rates once they get here and they drive down the wages because they allow abuse at the hands of greedy employers. And they use emergency rooms for care which costs tax payers.
1. Why do people immigrate to the US illegally? Is it that bad in Mexico?
Yes. Corruption and disastrous economic policy prevents individual success. What is available here is the chance to succeed and prosper. Yet, that is changing due to the current political/ideology top dogs. Soon, if they remain, Americans will be wanting to leave.
2. How do they get here illegally? Does every one of them stow away in a semi truck trailer?
They either take their chances on their own, or fork over what may be a life’s savings to pay “professionals” to bring them in. Some do not want to stay. They are actually earning money to bring in people or illegal drugs.
3. Why is illegal immigration a problem? Are current Americans afraid of Native American descendants taking back land?
Taking back? America PURCHASED that land. It was a legal transaction between agreeable traders. What this country is and will hopefully continue to be, is a prosperous land that values freedoms which cannot be found in ANY other country. If the U.S. had NOT acquired the S.W., the illegals (those BREAKING LAWS) would not need to cross a river to get in. We would be more easily victimized by the crimes that are inherent with such.
4. Does anybody believe President Obama is doing anything about illegal immigration in the United States?
Yes, he is. He is making it easier. Illegally entering the country does not make a legal voter later. It’s all Obama cares about. He has an agenda, and that is fundamental change. If he is able to create a nation of dependents, then he is guaranteed to succeed in his selfish plans. His ideals are UN-AMERICAN. Those who depend on him are nothing more than automatons, bending to his will, void of conscience and self-respect. That is also UN-AMERICAN.
“Are current Americans afraid of Native American descendants taking back land”?
its not the nativee americans flooding the border. its the hispanics.
How do you NOT know that the illegal immigrants are mainly Latino of Spanish decent, they would be from S P A I N, you know, the country of Spain. Before you write something get the facts straight. Oh ya, and what about all the other illegal aliens from other countries beside the natives south of the border. Take my advice, take a course in geology and history. Fact: The Spaniards killed and displaced as many natives as the Europeans did, have you ever heard of a Indian reservation in Mexico?
1) Most people because they don’t qualify (bad record, not enough money etc.) but the most commun reason is because, now is taking years for people to get their visas, green cards, word permit or whatever they are applying for.
2) All you got to do is find your self a coyote ( the person that is going to get you across) and money. The more you’re willing to spend the easiest and quicker they get you across.
3) Is NOT a problem for everyone because company’s that hire illegals beneficent from it, by paying them less. That’s when cheap labor comes in. But companies used them, some of us used them too. So you tell me where the problem is?
Illegal aliens from Mexico & Central America need to be deported immediately. If they refuse to return to their countries of origin, they should be killed on the spot by licensed bounty hunters. If every U.S. citizen made it a point to identify and exterminate all illegal aliens, the U.S. would return to being paradise on earth.
you want to present both side of the problem, in this place you will only find things against. 1. One of the reason why people immigrate to the USA is because there is high demand for cheap labor in the USA; people would not come to the USA if they could not make a better leaving than they had in their country. so people come to the USA to basically fulfill that demand. “it is that bad in Mexico?” Is not that is horrible in mexico, there are some regions in mexico that may be “bad” but not the entire nation. 2.
I’m Mexican and I live in México so I’d like to try to answer a few things from the perspective of someone on the southern side of the border.
1. No, it’s not that bad in México, it’s actually pretty nice over here (or used to be before the drug war, now the northern side and certain states are very dangerous).
Unlike in the us, where minimum wage is enough to survive at least, minimum wage is not in México. This is a huge issue that is growing right now.
Wages in México are much lower than in the US but life isn’t nearly as expensive either. Someone who works in a fast food restaurant in the US probably earns around the same than an engineer in México, However, that same wage is enough to live a very nice life over here. For that same reason, the immigrant who sends part of their paycheck from fast food work can pay the schooling of his kids in México. This is attractive to those men who have no studies to get a decent job over here and see the future of their children even bleaker than theirs, since they will find a more competitive future as education advances over here.
And one last thing, illegal immigration exploted in the 90′s because of a huge economic recession that happened in México in 1994. Thankfully we are now over that and the rates are actually slowing down since the last decade.
2. Like other people have said, yeah, some risk it on their own and some pay their life savings to coyotes.
3. Illegal immigration is a problem for the middle classes in the US right now because, as people keep losing their jobs they now need those that tend to employ illegal immigrants. They are also a social issue since they come from a different culture and have a different language and they came in extremely great numbers so people feel threatened by them, because they are so different and it feels like they are invading. They are also more worried right now about their economy so they worry about the overflood of their facilities and public services.
Illegal immigration is also good for the economy because it allows employers to save money on wages. Especially in jobs that require extremely physical excersice since those types of jobs would require a much better payement since health care programs would need to be covered. This helps small business to grow and big business to extend. Illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes through their paychecks but they do through their comsumption of foods or electronics or whatever they buy. Businessmen then keep the cash and credit flowing in banks and markets.
3. President Obama has actually kept vigilance on the borders and he is much harder on illegal immigrants than Bush ever was. At least that’s how he is seen from here.
Also, the US didn’t buy all of the states that used to be part of México, just the La Mesilla trerritory. The rest was won on a war. But we don’t plan on taking anything back, now or never.
Immigration is not our main concern.
some answers
1) Economic disparities are the main force between illegal immigrations. The minimum wage in Mexico is roughly 6 dollars a DAY. If you make 3 dollars an HOUR as an illegal workers in the US is worth it.
2) Illegal immigrants can walk, swim, ride as a stow away or in some cases they over stay their visas.
3) Illegal immigration is not a problem when you pay little money for your groceries, your favorite Chinese restaurant still charges 8.00 for your Mongolian beef thanks to an illegal buzz boy and cook working at the kitchen or when your favorite contractor charges you a reasonable prize for your new patio and you see that all his workers speak Spanish. It becomes a problem in economic down turns when people lose their jobs, their health insurance and they find in the illegal workers a competing work force that devalues the American wages.
About diseases and Balkanization is true if you are or were a member of the KKK. Reasonable people (no more than two years of elementary school) know better.
4) No president republican or democrat is interested in solving the problem of illegal immigration. If you can pay as a farmer 3 dollars the hour, why will you want to pay full minimum wage plus benefits? Same for packing industries and other industries that are human labor intensive. Industries, farmers and politicians that can afford nannies and maids (usually illegal) will not support a president that wants to mess with the status of their workers.
1. Why do people immigrate to the US illegally? Is it that bad in Mexico?
- First are you writing a paper on Mexican illegal immigration or just immigration in general? Although, there are many Mexicans in that states that are illegal do keep in mind that illegal immigrants come from different parts of the world. Just because people cross the border between Mexico and the U.S. they are not Mexican.
- Most of the people that immigrate illegally to the U.S. do so economic reasons and hopes of a better future. While other to join their family which is the case for most female and child illegal immigrants.
- Is it that bad in Mexico: Not really. Like someone said if you are middle class you can live a good life style. Also most people in Mexico own their homes (Don’t pay a mortgage) and for the most part are not as much in debt as those of us that live here in the states. All my uncles over there pay cash for their cars. Maybe it’s not a Ferrari but most of us here in the states can’t pay 20-30K cash on a car. There are places in Mexico for the more rich where the homes are much nicer than many in the states and they have luxury cars and they are debt free. So no Mexico is not horrible otherwise everyone would try to immigrate to the states. Also I am sure this is the case in other countrie.
2. How do they get here illegally? Does every one of them stow away in a semi truck trailer?
- Someone her gave some of the examples I had. BUT it is not as easy as “stow in a semi truck trailer” . Most travel by foot on the desert .
3. Why is illegal immigration a problem? Are current Americans afraid of Native American descendants taking back land?
- Do not take offense but you might want to do a little more research on your own. Native Americans are not illegal immigrants. Native Americans are not Mexicans or people from other latin countries (they are not Aztecs, Mayas, Incas).Yes Mexico lost land to the U.S. quite a lot, but still Mexicans are not Native Americans. (you might of wanted to put Mexican American but just in case you did mean native American)
4. Does anybody believe President Obama is doing anything about illegal immigration in the United States?
- Well there is really no solution good or bad for the illegal immigration issue so that answers your question. Also other government branches play a role not just Obama.
For some of the questions you asked there is tons of information on the web.
It’s easy for them to get jobs here even if they are here illegally. I work with illegal immagrants that admit to me that they are here illegally, and guess what they work here in the USA with fake social security numbers, the guy told me he just goes to Roosevelt ave in queens NYC and just walks around saying social security, social security and eventually someone walks up to him sells him a SS# and here they are now by the bunch working in unions making good money ($40 + an hour) they don’t even speak any English and are here working in union jobs making very good money, what the hell is going on here. I know lots of Americans that live here and would like to make $40 + an hour in the books paying taxes.
Right now my union really sucks because there are soo many illegal immagrants in the union with fake papers that we have no more power because of them. They don’t and can’t stand up for their rights..
The more immigrants we let in this country the less right we have.
They come here to have kids and live off our taxes, we tax payees have to maintain them, it’s not fair.
Your here illegally and have kids your kids should be illegal too. While they live off our government collecting walfare, food stamps, their husbands are out making money off the books.
Wake up America.
Illegals represent a drain on the middle class, increase drain in social services with the profits going to employers who hire illegals. The typical scenario might be that a Mexican comes here illegally, gets hiredmfor cheap wage running down wage for American workers formsame job. This man uses our roads, parks, goes to our emergency rooms when he gets sick, but only doesnhe not pay a dime in taxes, he sends all his money back to hisnfamily in Mexico. Thennhe brings his wife here. Shenhasntwo kids with all medicalmpaid by taxpayers driving somemhospitals in border states out of business. We pay 52 billion a year to educate children of illegals whonpay no taxes .
Hispainc culture is heavily influenced by Catholicism, which is anti birth control which as a former Catholic I now believe is a naked attemptmto increase their numbers, contributions tomthe Church, and power in the world. Going hand innhand with this is an antiintellectual stance sincenit allows more complete control of a population. The quinceanara tradition, backedmup by Catholicnchurch, basically says that at 15 a girl becomes a woman meaning she can now bear children. This mentality What’s behind the very highnteen pregnancy rates and dropout rates amongnHispanics. Therenis an unspoken acceptance of impregnating youngnfemales beforenthey have gotten enough education to support themselves or their children. Mexican culturenstillmis very intensely machismo patriarchal society, which of is just how the Catholicmchurchnwantsnit.
In summary big business on one hand exerts pressure onngovernment to allow illegal immigration for
Cheap labor. These companies dump the increased taxes from social services used by their workers on the American public. A similar happened with the Irish late 1800s early 1900s. They came here poor, , high birth (catholic) rates which scared the American people. Tremendous discrimination. Irish gotnno welfare, no foodnstamps, no affirmative action into Ivy League schools, no one taught theirmkids to speak American English from Irish brogue. We just worked hard, worked at school, learned the language, and persevered.
Illegal immigration is a very important issue that the government is not paying enough attention to. Illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes on anything and get payed under the table.I personally met some of them and asked them couple of questions. They come here for the American dream and better financial status. some of them even claim that this country was theirs and the government doesn’t have the right to kick them out. Others just say that they want to raise a good family in a safe country. I also interviewed some border patrol police in California and they said that they cant kick kids out of schools and they cant kick sick people out of hospitals.
Hmmm… illegal immigration. What a topic.
Well, I think most of the above comments sum up the problem. I will add this, though:
The issue is in the culture. We really cannot quite fathom it as americans unless we’ve lived in hispanic nations for an extended period of time(I have). There is a solution to this mess, which I will lay out briefly in this little snippet. (Feel free to use any of the following in your report.)
The hispanic culture has been trained to think that
a)their governments are completely corrupt, which they mostly are. They constantly make underhanded, illegal deals, like selling state land to foreign nations/companies for personal gain. They take every possible measure to prevent being kicked out of office on election day, including making it illegal to put up signs for other candidates(but not signs for THEM of course), using the corrupt police to threaten, fine and arrest political opponents and their supporters, and stealing from the national treasury to put it in their own pockets.
b)their local police are all corrupt, which is fairly true as well. They will pull you over and demand that you pay them even if you have done nothing wrong. If you refuse, they can, and often will, arrest you and impound your vehicle on false charges. The corrupt government will do nothing to help you. They are usually allowed by law to simply enter homes or buildings and sieze property and/or individuals without any sort of warrant. An officer can just randomnly pick a house, walk in, pick up a person’s cell phone, or other item, put it in his/her pocket, and walk out. Even if the real owner is standing there watching it happen.
c) because the government and police are corrupt, the citizenry are not bound by the law, either. This is the horrible mindset that most central and south american countries have led their peoples into. The common man no longer has any respect for the law. Yes, he does if he might get caught, but as long as that isnt going to happen, he can do as he/she pleases, no matter how illegal it is. After all, why should I follow any law enforced by corrupt government workers? What allegiance do I owe them?
Now, this is quite unfathomable to a law-abiding American citizen. We are trained to honor and uphold the law, even if it doesn’t make sense to us or it seems unneccessary. Obviously, there are exceptions to that rule. But generally speaking, we stop at our stop signs, drive atleast reasonably close to the speed limit, eat our peas, make our beds, and do honest business with other human beings. So, when someone from down south steps over a little line in the ground without permission, we all naturally cry “ILLEGAL!! ILLEGAL!!” The illegal immigrant, meanwhile, shruggs and asks “que es el problema?” (“What’s the problem?”)
There is constant theft, and so every window and door is barred, especially in the residential areas, where it gets dark at night. Under the corner lights each night there is a little group of teenagers inhaling some white stuff in a plastic bag and they invite anyone who passes by to join in the fun. If not, then they may pull out a handgun and rob you. And this happens on every-other corner. When the neighbors want to party, they blare their hispanic rock on giant speakers(often stolen, of course), rocking the whole neighborhood with no respect for others who want to sleep. (In the states we can call the police about that, but there, its a culturally-accepted practice. Theirs is a party lifestyle!) It is VERY common for teenage girls to get pregnant out of wedlock, and often the man doesn’t stick around to take care of the child. Usually the pregnant daughter will live with her parents, who will help to rear the child. The catholic church facilitates all of this quite well with their policies of re-produce, confess and recite a repeated prayer 30 times, you’re forgiven, be happy, go out and do it again!
Now, living in this wild and lawless environment, don’t forget about the drug-trafficking and street shoot-outs which regularly occur. Would you want to live in such a place? Would you want to raise children in such a place?
Now, you walk to the border, leaving your little shanty-town behind you, look over the hill, and what do you see? Houses with grass outside! Paved roads! Nice houses! Even the smaller homes look nice compared to what you’re used to! You hear the stories about the great nation up north, about the “American Dream,” and think alot about that little line in the sand that says you can’t go there. You were born HERE. You belong to the state HERE. You must stay HERE. You are stuck HERE!
Well, that’s the law, but, as you have so often done throughout your life, you take the logical route: you break it. It’s just a line, you reason. I’ll only be in America for a short time, you think, so why bother trying to integrate? All these americans are shouting “Illegal! Illegal!” Sheesh, dont get your panty hoses in a knot! I’ll be in-and-out, I swear! Maybe I’d stay forever, if the law allowed me, but immigrating LEGALLY is something I just can’t afford. The process is too long, too buearucratic, and too expensive. The USA stole all that land in the Mexican-American war, anyways! It SHOULD be ours! Why should I go through corrupt bureaucrats to get my documents and then have to pay taxes in the US? No, I think I’ll just go over tonight. I’ll be safe, happy and healthy in that beautiful country up north, and I’ll save up some hard-earned cash for my family and/or myself while I’m at it. Yeah, this is a great idea. I hope they dont deport me.
I hope I’m painting you a picture of the mentality and rational that goes on here. These people are our fellow-men. They also have lives, families and ambitions, but they live in a corrupt instituion and culture. It isn’t their fault they were born there. Some will say, “yes, but it’s THEIR job to clean up THEIR mess!” Granted, but the fact is that 99% of them are not in a position to do anything, nor will they ever be. If you’ve ever befriended hispanics, you know how friendly they are- once your in their group, they slap you on the back, smile, laugh, make some jokes, and share everything they have with you.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if most hispanics feel quite offended at the fact that the affluent americans dont want them here. We have good reasons, of course, reasons that most hispanics consider void because of the life they came from and the fact that they consider all laws and governments as corrupt and not important. Taxes is an important reason- we should not be paying to help illegals get education/healthcare or anything else- not unless they help pay for it.
However, I don’t believe we should be actively deporting them, either. They do take our jobs, but the goal should not be to deport them, but to MAKE THEM CITIZENS, so that THEN THEY WILL BE PAYING TAXES! Then, once they are paying taxes, they can enjoy all the rights, freedoms, prosperity and benefits that we enjoy everyday. And you know what? As soon as they become hard-working citizens, they are no longer a drag on our economy, but rather a BENEFIT to it. They add to the workforce, and often do jobs that few others would. We need those kind of people, too, you know.
Now as for the culture, that is, the deeply-ingrained idea they have that law doesn’t matter, it can be a problem at times; illegals often have the highest crimerates within the US. It is THOSE individuals who must be detained and/or deported. If they have already acquired citizenship, then we can punish them just as we would any other american criminal. By the law. However, the majority of illegals would likely embrace citizenship, and would become law-abiding american citizens. I would easily guess that 90% of them would jump at the opportunity. I cannot confirm that statistic, but knowing their culture and having lived among them, that is my belief.
As for their cultural problems, such as blaring music too loud for their neighbors, throwing garbage in their neighbor’s yard or just not picking up english, most of these issues would solve themselves almost immediately as the differences in the culture become obvious and accepted to the new-comers. And although it upsets many americans to see spanish signs, or hear spanish dialogue that they dont understand, they must realize that in hispanic nations, english is as common as spanish is. Whilst few hispanics actually speak it, the english language is on all packaging, imports, and other items which are from the US(which is alot). English rock and pop music are played on the radio as much as spanish music, virtually all of their movies come from Hollywood and are thus subtitled in spanish. Even their local TV networks often broadcast american-made shows. The hispanics are used to a foreign, unintelligable language pervading their own country, so they are dumbfounded when americans flip out over a spanish shop on mainstreet. I think that we, as americans, need to be less-reactive to languages we don’t understand. It seems foreign to us, yes, but the majority of the world is now in a bi-lengual mode, with english being the second language. We have french restaurants and shops, so why not spanish? I suppose it is just the knee-jerk response; we see a mexican-hole-in-the-wall shop and our first impulsive thought is “illegal!” Perhaps its a deseved reaction, but if we make our illegal friends into legal, law-abiding citizens, I think we would quickly grow acustomed to and even learn to love the influx of a new culture in our cities and country. And should the hispanics choose NOT to ever learn english? I cannot blame them completely if such is the case; it was a real struggle for me to learn spanish. I also imagine that the older hispanics would have a REALLY difficult time pickingup a new language at such an advanced age(statistically, the older you are, the less able to learn a new language you are). However, their children would certainly pick up english quickly and would definately integrate into the american culture far easier than their parents. Millions of illegal’s american-born children have already demonstrated that. Most of us probably know atleast a couple of such individuals personally. So, those who are too old to integrate will die off within a generation or so, and their children will integrate just fine into quality american lifestyles. (This of course is the idealistic scenario; there will always be some trouble-makers, whom, as I’ve said, will have to be deported or imprisoned, as any other american would be.)
Another concern among many is that once we start offering citizenship and/or “amnesty,” that the floodgates will spill over with millions more illegals flooding the country. This should not be a concern. It would happen, for sure, but as previously stated, the influx of worker-citizens would be a valuable asset to our economy, if carefully handled(by that, I mean as little government intervention as possible- the government always slows down economic growth when it gets over-involved). If, in the end, Mexico and neighboring nations feel their own populations getting too small as they all move into the USA, they will certainly tighten up their own security measures to prevent it. It would be nice to see them do their parts to patrol the borders, for once, seeing as principally the US has been handling it for some time. And if they dont tighten up their security, oh well! Let’s all be americans! It sure beats any other nationality.
First, I would like you to know that my comments are not built on hatred nor on personal experiences. I am retired, international business executive and living in Florida. My inputs are personal and based on my years of living experiences and, hopefully, not on bias.
1. Why do they immigrate to the US. From everything I can gather, the illegal immigration is based on work availability, benefits and the escape from conditions existing at ‘home’. In other words, they are looking for a better life – BUT, they also appear to be unwilling to enter the US legally. Your comment ‘ that bad in Mexico’ is presumptious. Illegal immigrants come from many, many countries – not just Mexico. A recent article addressed a significant increase in illegal immigrants from India!
2. How do they get here? That is not a simple answer. It appears as if many come across our borders illegally -either by sneaking across or by false papers. However, they also come here on student visas (or similar) and then just get lost in our society – intentionally. How they get here is only important when you look at our feeble attempts to stop illegal immigration – build a fence around the US!! How ridiculous! Another Iron Curtain in reverse – instead of keeping people in, as was the intent of the Iron Curtain, our ‘fence’ is to keep them out. No matter what direction of travel, it just does not work. It is better to eliminate the reason for the immigration – if the reason is work and benefits, then eliminate the ability to get work (without a work visa) and eliminate the benefits (medical, education etc).
3. Why is it a problem? Immigration is NOT a problem. Illegal immigration is! My ancestry is filled with immigrants – all of which came here legally and made a good life for themselves. If we allow immigration – which we do allow – then why should we allow illegal immigration. Illegal immigration make the legal process even more difficult. Illegal immigration cost us dearly in terms of benefits, loss of jobs (I know, many people say they only take jobs we won’t take) etc. Re jobs, that can easily be handled through a work visa program which basically exists in every country. I was personally involved in that process in Germany when I took a job at a German company, partially owned by an American company. The German company had to justify me taking that job versus a German. There is a work visa program in this country – the employer must justify giving the job to a foreign national – it works but is bypassed most of the time.
4. Obama. Well, that is another story and it is not just about Obama. Unfortunately, resolution of illegal immigration issues has become a part of the political process – which by the way, has recently shown its inability to handle major issues. Obama, as leader, has NOT led this country towards any resolution nor has he provided any direction in which we should proceed. I give Obama a poor grade on his performance re this subject.
5. Dream Act (I know – this was not on your list). Under the Dream Act, we take a position that says we should treat children of illegal immigrants (those brought here by the illegal immigrants) as if they were citizens of the US by providing education and education financial benefits. Well, I do not agree and I know that is a harsh position. Supporters say we can not blame the children for what their parents did and I agree. HOWEVER, we also can not let those children reap the benefits of the illegal activities of their parents. If parents stole $10M and left it to their children, are the children entitled to keep the money? NO. The same should apply to illegal immigrants. The parents illegally brought them into this country. That does not and should not automatically mean they can reap the benefits of being in this country.
Good luck with your research paper. Try and keep the emotions out and try to look at the facts. Not easy, since it is an extremely emotional issue!!
Frank
I suggest you try to read, Dying to Get Across by Jorge Ramos.
It will open your eyes to what many don’t know.
People want to come from to our country maybe because it is crappy where they are, or maybe they can’t make it there. And who can honestly blame them. Honestly, people need to use their brains (I’m not meaning you) and be honest with themselves. Wouldn’t they want to do the same?
And the reason that they do it illegally, is because shortly after we came and stole this land and lied to it’s original inhabitants and slaughtered many of them, we decided that we didn’t want others here. We wanted it all to ourselves to hog and hoard. And it’s been like that since.
We are a very racist nation and have been since stealing the land from the Native Americans, and we don’t want any other kind here, never have. And yes, I do think that some fear that the increase in other nationalities here are a threat, a threat to their comfort zone and liking.
Do I think Obama is doing much about immigration? No. Do I care? No. I think we need to focus on other problems we have, in which not everything is because of illegal immigration. I think people need a reality check. I think people need to lose the pride and arrogance and get over other minorities and races and just accept and deal with it, instead of acting like a bunch of crybabies. This wasn’t even our country to begin with. But no, let’s lie to the original inhabitants, and steal their land, and slaughter many of them, and hate on anyone else who tries to come here from anywhere else. And let’s try to keep them out, because we were here first (though we really weren’t!)
People say that they are taking all our jobs. The only jobs that they are taking are the ones that typical americans won’t, and that is a fact, I watch it happen. Many jobs that they take, many others here would consider demeaning. No, I do not believe that they are draining our society, that they make up most of the violent crimes or prison population, or that they are any of the problems that our country is facing. I think all our problems would still be here regardless. People need to actually do real research and check out their facts instead of just finding stuff to complain about when it comes to immigrants and looking for reasons to not like them.
And to those who demand that others here speak English, you learn and speak Native American, that was the original language here! People need to stop demanding that everyone be Englishized!
Illegal immigration is not only a problem in USA. It is a worldwide problem. If anyone think that they can stop illegal immigration. I say to them that keep on dreaming.
White man once came to America and started killing all those native Indians and took away their land. Then they saw that fire that they put in natives backyards is now coming in to their own homes. So white man started hiding behind laws and so called slogans of patriotism.
White man is actually scared that history will repeat itself and one day they will fade away just like native Indians and their land will be controlled by these new immigrants.
I think today immigrants are much nicer than ever before, at least they are not killing people to stay here!
You might want to watch this video by a retired Catholic Priest who explains how illegal and legal immigration to the United States harms the countries that they come from.

In addition read up a little on Subsistence Wage Theory (Iron Law of Wages). Unskilled wages are depressed in the United States to near the poverty level, because of the flood of illegal labor. In some places illegal labor has forced wages below what citizens can live on and so they choose to live on welfare instead. Subsistence Wage Theory is now ignored because we have welfare to keep people from starving.
Illegal immigration is really about cheap labor. If it weren’t for the wealthy employers and their Washington lobbyists, in my opinion there would be no serious illegal immigration problem. Fine and imprison employers of illegal labor and the illegal immigration problem would be manageable. Enforce the law, especially against employers! Read Title 8 of the US Code.
Finally, the birthrate in the United States reached 2.1 per female in the mid 1970s. One thing that the wealthy banks, businesses, etc. fear more than anything is a level or declining population. They believe that wealth is driven by an expanding population, which has been true in the past, but will be harmful in the long run. So, it is important to them to continue expanding the population the only way that they can by illegal or legal immigration. The United States is on a path for its population to grow from present 311 million to over half a billion by mid-century. I wonder how that will look?
When it come illegal immigration, it’s an issue that really gets to me because I am a chicano . Meaning I am a child of illegal immigrants but I was born here. Going on with the questions now.
1. Why do people immigrate to the US illegally? Is it that bad in Mexico?
First of all illegal immigration is not just “Mexicans” . It’s a world wide issue . People just say it’s “Mexicans” because our border aligns with Mexico . I’m sure that those people who are “against” illegal immigration or Latinos go to Latin places or where a lot of immigrants come from . The United States to immigrants is the “American Dream” . People want better for their children .
2. How do they get here illegally? Does every one of them stow away in a semi truck trailer?
I’ve gone to Mexico in car, it hurts me to see all these crosses along the border line. They do not all get here in a semi truck trailer, they will cross through the desert, swim , pay coyotes, or however possible .
3. Why is illegal immigration a problem? Are current Americans afraid of Native American descendants taking back land?
Like “JJ” said : “Native Americans are not illegal immigrants. Native Americans are not Mexicans or people from other latin countries (they are not Aztecs, Mayas, Incas).Yes Mexico lost land to the U.S. quite a lot, but still Mexicans are not Native Americans. (you might of wanted to put Mexican American but just in case you did mean native American)”
4. Does anybody believe President Obama is doing anything about illegal immigration in the United States?
If the government wanted to do something about they would still try. But no matter what they try to do , illegal immigrants won’t stop .
P.S. You should try and interview some people that are illegal immigrants . It will help a lot.
We are South Texas ranchers and we have a lot of immigrants going thru the property. I made a youtube movie about it -

I have many movies on my youtube channel where I interview the illegals that I find about the journey, their dreams, etc.
Good luck with your paper.
wow, I love reading all these comments. I think I have a very different perspective. I am the child of immigrants (legal) and I have spent my adult life working for federal law enforcement and primarily illegal immigration issues. I have seen the problem from the borders, internally, and regionally. Although many reasons are behind all basic questions, I can tell you that until you actually work in the area, it is difficult to make opinions based on our sheltered lives. Stuff happens that you have no idea about. If interested then hit me up.
Just another paper on illegal immigration. There is so much information out there already that the last thing that is needed is another paper with an expert opinion on illegal immigration. Drop the topic and find something to benefit mankind.
I may sound like some angry conservative here, but I truly do NOT like Illegal immigration. There are so many illegals in the country right now that finding work based on my current level of education has become nearly impossible. Case in point: I applied to a new restaurant that opened up in Dallas last year, I have no experience being a waiter and it was the kind of restaurant where they only want pretty girls and one well dressed man as the hosts, no ability to cook, so I only had 2 options, Dishwasher or Busboy, busboy was all I could take, I did get the job, BUT despite the fact that I was going above and beyond the expectations of my job, I wasn’t only getting positive comments from my coworkers, but many of the guests at the restaurant as well. One month later, the managers called me into the office and told me that they had to let me go because I hadn’t shown “hustle that they needed” I told them that it was bullcrap and I could move even faster but they told me that it was a business decision they didn’t have a choice about. As I was leaving I knew it was because of affirmative action, which places people of other races to be hired and stay there before me. I understand that the people looking for that job who aren’t in college actually NEED it, but when your family isn’t filthy rich, and you’re in college, you need a job to be able to supply yourself with the money you need to supply yourself with a few extra things to keep yourself psychologically sane, and without a degree of some kind, I can’t find a job anywhere else, so thusfoth, any young person trying to find simple work and get experience to show that can at least perform some kind job can’t due to the high amount of Illegal immigrants taking that work away.
