I believe that our national debt is high but you cannot blame that on illegal immigratns. Th U.S. started as a country with open hands to immigration and forward expansion. We all came here to the U.S. as immigrants, we have to remember that none would be here if it wasnt for our ancestors. This land was not always ours. How can we deny to people what we came here for in the first place.
America’s benefits are for those who obey the law and contribute contributions to build and support benefits. In most important matters, the bottom line is economics, and in this one, Americans, individual or collective, cannot act on all the needs to which their hearts respond. First consideration to provide opportunity and education to our children, American citizens. Unfortunately, we cannot provide for all, and if we try, our own will be shortchanged. I can’t with my own budget, America can’t with hers, either. As we continue to contribute funds and opportunity for those who break the law, we become criminals, hypocrites, of our laws, values, too.

I just attended a very moving swearing in ceremony that made 100 immigrants US citizens. Those 100 people are welcome with open arms into our country. Together they represented 52 countries around the world. Everyday there are many ceremonies like this! We are not anti-immigration. Just do it in the legal manner. Come into the country legally. Go though the screening process. Go through the testing process. Show that you will go thru some inconveniences and expenses to prove that you really want to be a part of this great country!

It’s disappointing that none of our politicians are coming up with solid solutions other then building a fence. This doesn’t have to be such an emotionally charged issue if common sense solutions are implemented.
Solutions:
1) Determine assimilation period i.e., 7 years. Any illegal immigrant here less
than 7 years immediately gets deported.
2) if it’s determined that you’ve been here more then the required assimilation period, you have to go through a serious of testing
A) can you speak English? Answer is no you get deported. Answer is yes (or some attempt) move to next question
B) Perform a means test
- income (who is your employer?)
- taxes (are you paying taxes, and, if so, how much? If they don’t meet federal, local and state you go after the employer. If you can’t verify employment they get deported.
- have you been charged with a crime? If yes, deportation
C) they need to go through the regular requirements for legal immigration.
D) if you’ve been here for 25 years or more, and haven’t committed a crime, we grant amnesty.
E) we legislatively get rid of the anchor baby provisions.
F) if you come here illegally after these types of rules are implemented, you are immediately deported regardless. We monitor illegals through e-verify and slap heavy penalties on companies that hire illegals.
I am sure the testing can be more rigorous. These are just a few ideas.
Let’s come up with solutions instead of only focusing on the problems.

We Do Pay Taxes… But The Govern’t Is Paying For Them!!! Its Not Right For Them To Come Into Our Country But Some Illegal Imm. Do Carry Because They Want A A “Easy” Life BULLSHIT!! And Lawbreakers Shouldn’t Be Rewarded, And That Doing So Would Only Encourage More Illegal Immigration.
I found this site when looking for a chart of the history of illegal immigration to the United States. I compared this sites chart to one for minimum wage at http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/anth484/minwage.html. I did this because I was curious if the there is any noticeable correlation between the rise of minimum wage and the influx of illegal immigrants. While not a perfect comparison, I’m not sure how a perfect comparison can even be made, it does appear that as minimum wage rose, illegal immigration increased. It is also interesting to note that as minimum wage rose, the number of minimum wage working people decreased.
What I am wondering is that if we eliminate minimum wage, will this take away a primary motivation for illegal immigration? It would seem that businesses who hire these people are doing so because they want cheap labor and that they feel confident that the illegals will not turn them for breaking the law. By eliminating the minimum wage, businesses can then pay American’s next to nothing to work the same jobs they are breaking the law to hire illegal’s for. Demand for illegal immigration will be reduced and the illegal’s lose one of the primary appeals, cheap labor.
The argument can be made that American’s should not suffer lower wages because illegal’s are taking the jobs. That businesses who pay these people should be fined and criminalized and minimum wage should be enforced. To counter this argument I would say that minimum wage is not being enforced as these illegals continue to work the jobs and doing so on a scale large enough to deter the hiring of illegal’s would be cost prohibitive. Further, the business community makes the largest political donations. Business is not going to support politicians who make laws that throw them in jail for their hiring practices.
Enforcement of minimum wage seems like a joke as if it was enforced we would not have the illegal immigration problem today. It also seems that minimum wage is driving away the jobs lower skilled American’s would work to illegal aliens as there are fewer working for minimum wage while the population of illegal aliens has sky rocketed. On an ideological level, Minimum wage is a socialist concept that has no place in a capitalistic society. Get rid of it and these unskilled American’s can then find jobs that pay them what they are really worth without having to compete with illegal aliens.
Just a thought but the math seems to make sense.
James, when immigrants were flowing freely into this country we did not have the economy we have now. At that time the U.S. needed people to build the country. Now all that hard work over many years is being diverted to the new arrivals in the form of free health care, free education, welfare. They are hurting this country because they don’t bring skills we need, just bodies. It’s true agriculture has grown used to having all those cheap bodies but it hasn’t kept the price of produce from escalating; I for one am willing to pay more for produce to get rid of them. Then I won’t have to support them and all their children. They have ruined what was an excellent health-care system and our schools who have had to divert resources to all those children who don’t speak English. I am in favor of repealing citizenship to children born here whose parents are here illegally. I just want them to get out of my country and stop leaching off my hard work. Go home.
For some reason a lot of you people seem to think that it’s lawyers, engineers and doctors who are crawling across the desert and over the border fence. No. It’s ignorant, unskilled, bodies. Bodies who fully intend to go home once they save enough money. But, that rarely happens. Meanwhile they are one of the largest contributors to the GNP of Mexico; our American dollars. The only reason any of them can claim to pay taxes is that there is mandatory withholding on their pay. Agri-business will have to learn to do without them. It will probably take a generation. I myself as a teenager cut apricots, picked tomatoes and cherries. Americans don’t object to hard work, especially with the economy failing. Any story I’ve read says that Americans grab these jobs. No, they do not work like little machines like the Mexicans. And they realize labor laws exist, unlike Mexicans who will tolerate mistreatment. Who wants our labor laws flaunted? I don’t. They are there for a reason. It’s a huge adjustment but necessary.
All illegals here now that are not criminals, should be allowed to enter the armed forces and earn thier citizenship. Further more, eliminate the border by allowing the mexican people to vote on becomming part of the union. Divide them into states, then you don’t lose your job going to Mexico but transfer, the tax base would increase, natural resources and gain a christian population. Then cartels would be pursued by a government that would be relentless. We are never going to stop it so lets embrace it and control it for the benefit of all! Think about it as a business proposition.

Get rid of minimum wage and you get rid of the business incentive for hiring them. American’s can then paid these low wages to work jobs that would otherwise go to undocumented workers.

America already has too much debt to deal with. Allowing Mexico into the States would do nothing but increase the debt. It would stretch our borders too far as well. If a person is willing to work and gain citizenship through naturalization then I’m fine with it. If the country feels that illegals should be allowed to earn citizenship by service then I support that. As long as a person works for their rights to enter what our forefathers created then I’m fine. We live here because somewhere in every families history someone stood up and earned their rights. Every American should have to pay the same price.
Anthony heck no Mexico is a different country and we have no interest in them being part of the union. We have no interest of this country being one Mexico. We will stop hiring them, stop feeding them, stop giving them anything and anyone who is harboring a fugitive will either be deported or arrested. This is the United States of America and traitors will not be tolerated.
All of these comments are pathetic. Did all of you forget that all of you have ancestors that migrated, they too were immigrants. Immigrants do the jobs that Americans do not want to do, and in turn also have taxes taken from their paychecks of which the government keeps because without a social security they are unable to claim their tax return nor their social security benefits. People should do more research before they offend most of which are hard working people. As far as welfare, I know a lot of Americans that do not work instead they abuse the walfare system and they get away with it.
Hey for those of you that use the argument that we are all immigrants allow me to say this…my ancestors have no bearing on my being a US citizen. My ancestors came form Ireland, but I have no interest in the Irish, their country, their customs and I don’t wear green on St. Patrick’s day. Why? Because I’m a loyal US citizen and the only things that I care any thing about are US citizens and this country. That is because I became an American. And only an American. That is what separates true Americans from people who call themselves Americans, but truly are not. If your loyalty or concern is anywhere else you are a traitor as far as I’m concerned. You can be a US citizen but that doesn’t make you a true American.

It is not that true Americans are threatened by “you” in “OUR” country. “WE” are more concerned with “insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” (Constitution of the United States, 1776) that cannot be possessed by younger generations due to the growing need to financially support the needs of those who choose NOT to abide within the guidelines of legal citizenship.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE, CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATURE TO STIFFEN THE PENALTIES FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
First, if a white man/women had to choose between being a chicken catche or watermelon picker and welfare, which would they choose WELFARE!Second, Most ILLEGALS/LEGALS mexicans that come hear do not even get min, wage. I know one mexican family that works from 5am to 8pm, 6 days a week and they only recieve roughly 300.00 a week. This same family would give there shirts off there backs if someone needed it. SO DON’T GO SAYING THINGS WITHOUT KNOWING THE TRUTH, GO MEET SOME OF THEM AND YOU JUST MIGHT FIND OUT THAT THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING WE ARE.

everyone always says immigrants to change the argument but it reality the issue is directed at illegal immigrants which are a whole different issue and are ruining the American economy… if you do not love the country you live in enough to want the best for it leave… plain and simple
